In 1965, The Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church begun very rich and glorious history. Many of our churches that exist today grew and developed from a small group of black worshipers who decided that there was a need for a church in this section of town.
Realizing the need for spiritual witnessing and a place to worship of our own. A group of concerned citizens assembled in the homes new the site which we were going to use in February of 1965, singing and praying our church into existence. We knew that with GOD nothing was impossible and if we put trust in him and persevered with faith and pray, our dreams could come true. We open our hearts completely to transforming the power of GOD’s love.
Feeling the urgent need for a spiritual leader in an Infant Church, Rev. M. A. Brown, one of the founders, was selected as the first pastor. After Rev Brown departure, the Rev R.L. Washington pastored of our church from 1965 – 1968.
Some of our first members were Mildred Johnson & Family, Charles and Randy Allen, Kenneth Dale, Joyce Dale (Williams), Eugene Berry, Aaron Brigham, Onetia Daniel and Family, Florence Smiley & Family. Watch care members were Rev. J.C. and Earlean White & Family, Henry Williams and Sedelia Edwards.
In 1968 Rev. J.C White served as interim pastor. After serving several months as interim pastor, Pastor Whited was called by Rev. R.L. Castle and Rev. Gordon to pastor our church.
The Bethlehem Baptist church progressed spiritually and financially. The church was blessed with increase in membership, spiritual progress and successful financial program.
Under Rev. White’s leadership in 1970, The construction of the present church building began. While under construction Bethlehem Church continued to hold Sunday services in the little converted house at 111 Oriole Street.
Rev. White continues his vigorous and dynamic leadership, his high visions or excellence and his preaching of the gospel has held our church to exceeding height of prosperity. The church continues to experience substantial growth with new involvement and programs as presented by Rev. White. Under his leadership, we have entered a new cycle. We are the builders and the doers, who always strive to make Bethlehem Baptist Church better and stronger.
The completion of a landscape paved parking lot and the end of all indebtedness. For all the visual and beautiful changes in the Bethlehem Baptist Church have occurred under the leadership of Rev. White through the of GOD almighty.
The Church conducts on-going development process bible studies and the preached infallible word of GOD. So inspired by preached the work of God and the ministerial guidance of Rev White the Following minister have been licensed and ordained. Namely they are Rev D.R Robinson, Rev. W Craft, Rev. J.L Watson. Also licensed under Rev. White are: Min. E. White, Min. H. Neil, Min B. Phillips, Min. S Holmes, Min. R. Robinson, Rev J. Mims, Rev. E Neal Sr. and Min B. Green.
Our youth are doing greater youth conducts the worship service each 3rd Sunday-as result of the spiritual Background received here and at home. For we believed the bible verse which states: “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it”
In the year 2002, our church continues to march forward. Our church has been very busy with our new ministries’ programs. Our church ministries have been very inspirational and an assist
to the church. These ministries have been able to expound more bible study and more fellowship. The church ministries are able to address any question that might be trouble our members thought these services
We thank GOG for all his blessing toward us and the many persons. Living and dead who have helped us burn the church note for its ”Though may dangerous toil, and snares we have already come. ‘Twas Grace That Brought us safe thus far, and grace will lead us home.
Thanks be to GOD for all these years of divine guidance. Thanks to our past leader who paved the way for us: and thanks to our present leaders who are striving to develop the total person to be strong Christian men and women.
Let us sincerely pray in the unity of the spirit of Christ, love and fellowship of the presence so that the church will continue to be ministry of saving sacrificing and serving.
